Great Things Happening in District 9!
By Carol Lang, MS, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, District Director
Palm Beach County SHRM
- The chapter will be reinstating local dues for members. While the dues are nominal, the benefits will be tremendous, with more incentives, discounts and programs for PBC-SHRM members.
- A new video platform is being developed which will be used to present monthly virtual programs & potentially the chapter meeting programs. These programs will be stored in an online library which members may access & view programs at their convenience for a fee.
- The chapter’s annual conference will be held May 2 & 3. Registrations are already at 90 attendees, and the conference is expected to sell out.
- The chapter’s DEI committee is planning to hold quarterly Book Club meetings on a DEI topic as well as implement a mentoring program for the chapter’s emerging professionals.
Lastly, please join us in congratulating Immediate Past President Tammy Lane and the chapter for being recognized with the “Spirit of Patriotism” award at the 2022 Leadership conference for their efforts in promoting the support of veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserves. Great job team!
Under the leadership of 2022 President, Jan Foselli, HR Martin was revitalized, and the 29% growth in membership is a testament to that effort. Taking over the reins in 2023 is Jeff Devine. Jeff and his team have put together a program schedule for monthly meetings that include such timely topics as emotional intelligence, strategic planning, and well-being in a multigenerational workforce.
The chapter selected House of Hope of Martin County as its charity for the year. House of Hope provides support in food, clothing and financial assistance as well as life skills programs to local families and individuals in need.
HR Martin is also looking forward to implementing SHRM’s Dual Membership Release program this year.
Both the January and February chapter meetings were well attended; HR Martin is off to a great start.
SMA of South Florida
The Staffing Management Association of South Florida, based in Broward County, is a special interest SHRM chapter. Their focus is on recruitment, staffing and retention. While the chapter has not been as active in recent years, Noya Hastings-Richie, SMA’s 2023 President, is working hard to engage SMA members and recruit new board members.
