District 9 Spotlight

By Carol Lang, MS, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, District Director

All three chapter in District 9 have been busy at work, planning for an eventful 2024.

SMA (Staffing Management Association) is a special interest chapter focused on recruitment and retention. Plans include a series of podcasts on topics relevant to this area of HR. The first podcast is due to air later in January. President Noya Hastings-Richie is actively seeking new members to add to this unique group. Interested recruiters, or anyone seeking to hone their recruiting skills, can learn more by contacting Noya at [email protected].

Jeff Devine will be returning for his second year as president of HR Martin County. He and his board have many interesting sessions planned for their monthly lunch meetings held in Jupiter. The kick-off meeting on January 18 will feature Matt May, creator of Premier Team Building & Interactive Experiences. Matt will present on “Taking the Fear Out of Teambuilding.”

Palm Beach County SHRM has a full year of activities planned for 2024 under the leadership of president, Katie Kato. Included are monthly dinner meetings, “Ask the HR Pro” webinars, breakfast meetings at Lynn University, and Diversity Book Club Zoom discussions. And once again, PBC SHRM will be offering their annual 2-day conference May 7-8, with keynote speaker Johnnie C. Taylor himself. All in all, HR pros in District 9 will have a variety of educational and entertaining events to choose from in 2024.
