Community Spotlight – District 5

HR Florida District 5 is comprised of Greater Orlando SHRM (GOSHRM), Space Coast Human Resources Association (SCHRA), and Volusia/Flagler SHRM. We are very proud to announce that all three chapters received the 2023 EXCEL Platinum Award from SHRM. District V is doing BIG THINGS!
GOSHRM:
In May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, GOSHRM had their annual Mental Health Forum, featuring Keynote Speaker, April Simkins (author of the book, “By the Time You Read This”). SCHRA:
In April, SCHRA had their annual Space Coast HR Conference, which they co-host with South Brevard SHRM. During this conference, they raised $1900 for charity!
SCHRA’s Professional Development and Certification Director Katie Garcia was awarded the prestigious 2023 Spirit of Patriotism Award by EGRC for all of her work with veterans and military spouses. Congratulations Katie!
Volusia/Flager SHRM:
Recently, VF SHRM was made aware of a new transitional housing for homeless senior citizens that was being created in Daytona Beach. They were in need of rooms to be completely furnished from top to bottom, including a bed, stands, a tv and décor. Of course, VF SHRM stepped up and answered the call. They adopted a room and it created a ripple effect of our members and sponsors adopting rooms and they are proud to say, this caused 8 rooms to be completed! Volusia/ Flagler has also started quarterly New Member Breakfasts. Every quarter all new members will receive an invite to come and have breakfast with a few board members and ask any questions they may have and learn about the chapter. The chapter is also very excited about the upcoming half-day Leadership Workshop, which they have received over 75 RSVPS!
Tawnya Titus, SHRM-CP, PHR, District 5 Director
Tawnya is Human Resource Director with Teledyne Marine in Daytona Beach Florida. She has been in the Human Resource, Management, Recruiting, and Staffing field in Volusia, Flagler and Seminole Counties for over twenty-three years.
Tawnya has been a member of SHRM since 2011. She obtained her Professional in Human Resources Certification in 2014, her SHRM-CP Certification in 2015, and her Certified Staffing Professional Designation in 2019. She has previously served on the Volusia Flagler SHRM Board in 2022 and 2023 as Chapter President, 2021 as President-elect and 2018 and 2019 as the VP of Finance. She is also an active member of The Volusia Manufacturing Association.
Tawnya is passionate about connecting with people in her community and learning new things.
